Deeply relax with this 20 minute Evening Yoga Stretch | Bedtime Yoga to heal stress & tension with relaxing, deep yoga stretches. 💙 Get MORE in the SarahBethYoga APP: 🤍 (exclusive discount!) You’ll begin with a savasana to settle in, then learn how to do a 3D breath for deep breathing that will calm your nervous system as you continue to work through postures that will stimulate digestion and release pent up physical, mental or emotional tension. To deeply relax into our final savasana we used a breathing technique called the Physiological Sigh. It is a tool you can use to instantly turn on your parasympathetic nervous system and most people can feel a wave of relaxation within 20 seconds of practicing the sigh 3 times, like how we do it in savasana. Unwind and relax at the end of the day with this 20-minute yoga class for all levels. Enjoy a calming slow flow with deep stretches for the full body before resting in savasana. We'll begin in child's pose to connect with the breath before moving into side body stretches and seated neck rolls. Warm up the spine in traditional cat/cow and stretch the entire backside body in downward dog. Next we move into pigeon pose to stretch the hips, take an optional twist here to deepen the stretch. Open the chest and shoulders in melting heart pose, and finish the main sequence with ragdoll pose. The sequence ends reclined on the floor with hamstring stretches, twists, happy baby and savasana. Welcome to your 30 minute evening yoga flow. This yoga practice is for all levels and focuses on helping you release tension stored in the hips with a slow and steady hip opening practice. I recommend doing this class after a stressful work day as it's likely your body is holding onto stress and storing tension in your hips. This is because when we get stressed the sympathetic nervous system, our fight or flight response, gets activated. The primary muscle involved when this happens is the psoas which forms part of the hip flexor group. Whenever the body goes into fight or flight, the psoas muscle tightens and contracts. After a stressful day at work the psoas remains tense which is why releasing built up tension in this area is so beneficial. When we release the psoas, it sends a signal to our nervous system that we are safe. This signal activates the parasympathetic nervous system, also known as the rest and digest response. When we stimulate the parasympathetic nervous system we slow our heart and breathing rate, lower blood pressure and allow the body to enter a state of relaxation and recovery. In this class I will guide you through a series of hip opening/releasing postures designed to help you enter a state of rest and digest so that your body can fully recover from the day.
