Intel vs AMD? Forget it. The processor wars of the 90s are almost as legendary as Sega vs. Nintendo or Amiga vs. Atari. While Intel was improving the 386 and 486, competitors popped up like AMD and Cyrix, leaving Intel with a lot more competition on their hands than today, and various lawsuits followed along the way. These companies were dedicated to overtaking Intel in the processor race, and when Intel jumped to the Pentium, Cyrix and AMD weren't far behind with 5x86 and 6x86 processor iterations (AMD with their K6). This video will explore the whole Cyrix story, from their setup to their unfortunate demise. Along the way I'll ask the important question; Did Quake kill off Cyrix? Was it the undoing of an entire processor designer?.... It's a question which has basis in the Cyrix 686 processor's poor FPU performance and John Carmack's coding which leaned heavily on Intel FPU design. But it might not be the only reason why this silicon chip designer bit the bullet. This is an era where it wasn't just Intel vs AMD, or a simple price vs performance war. This was an era of Intel vs AMD vs Cyrix vs IDT, and for me, having lived through it, it's absolutely fascinating. In this video we will review a bit the Cyrix Media GX CPU which is for many collectors unknown. This is actually a SOC or also System on chip with integrated video chip. This cpu is not compatible to common socket 7 cpus and needs a special mainboard. After some Dos benchmarks we compare the cpu power also to the pentium MMX 233 cpu. Then some windows 98 gaming including a voodoo 1. Quake benchmarks as well under DOS and GL-Quake are done in this video. A couple of weeks ago I showed you my Intel Pentium 200 MMX gaming PC to play those cool 3D(FX) games that we all know and love. A couple of days after that I received a PC that contained an IBM 6x86MX CPU. Althought the Cyrix CPU is only clocked at 150Mhz (vs the 200Mhz of the Intel), it does have a performance rating of 200, bringing it head on with the Intel Pentium 200 MMX. The Cyrix Battery Combiner is a microprocessor controlled heavy duty relay that automatically connects batteries in parallel when one of them has reached a pre-set voltage (indicating that the battery is being charged), and disconnects when the voltage decreases below float level (indicating that one or more batteries are being discharged). Cyrix Battery Combiners are an excellent replacement for diode isolators. The main feature is that there is virtually no voltage loss so that the output voltage of alternators or battery chargers does not need to be increased.

Q2: I read in the datasheet that you can connect 5 Lithium batteries in parallel, but for the 12V only 4 pieces and for the 24V only 2, why is this? Q3: I have a MPPT 150/85. On many occasions, on clear sky, the controller reaches the maximum of 85A and remains that for quite some time. Will this cause any problem? Q4: I have a sealed lead acid as starter and an AGM house battery. Can I use the Cyrix CT between them? Q5: There is some confusion in the Victron community about what “Pass Thru” is on a MultiPlus. It seems to go to Pass Thru mode when the Multi is set in Charger Only mode and the AC load demanded from the circuits exceeds the 240v supply threshold. Il est temps de poser tout ce qui ne va pas, qu'on en parle en direct. Live à 21h, ils sont tous deux invités. Évidemment, je veux simplement poser les faits et calmer le débat, certainement pas prendre un parti unilatéral car il semble que chacun déborde à sa façon. Relevons le niveau. Alors Psyho, Mendax, parlons-en posément en adultes pour arrêter de prendre des communautés en otage. Rendez-vous compte un peu de la haine inutile que cela génère bien au-delà de vous deux. Installation d’un coupleur de batterie Cyrix-ct de Victron Energy. Le coupleur de batteries cyrix est un relais robuste piloté par microprocesseur qui connecte automatiquement des batteries en parallèle dès que l'une d'entre elles atteint une tension prédéfinie (signifiant qu'elle est en cours de charge) et qui les déconnecte lorsque la tension chute en dessous du niveau float (signifiant qu'une ou plusieurs batteries sont en cours de décharge). Les coupleurs de batteries cyrix sont une excellente solution de remplacement pour les séparateurs à diodes.
